Castello di Stenico

The collections

The castle, which is now a museum, contains paintings and objects of applied art from the provincial collections, providing an important record of the creativity and skill of the artists and craftsmen who have worked in the Trento region over the centuries.
The collection includes paintings of landscapes, religious scenes and portraits of eminent figures from Trentino history produced by Giovanni Battista Lampi, a famous portrait artist who worked in the most important European courts in the second half of the 18th century. The castle also has a notable collection of bells produced between the 14th and 18th centuries, objects in wrought iron and painted and engraved wood, including elegant marriage chests and finely decorated furniture, copper utensils, ceramic tiled stoves, keys and locks, arms and timepieces.
The rooms of the Edificio Nuovo contain a fascinating archaeological display which documents the settlements in the region between prehistoric times and the Roman period, featuring items discovered during excavations of the site of the lake dwellings in Fiavè (Bronze Age), from the settlement of Vigo Lomaso (1st century BC to the Roman period) and from the Stenico burial mound (Bronze Age to Iron Age).
