Dedicated to Mary, the chapel is a building of sober architectural form, erected within the castle walls, probably in the second half of the sixteenth century. Curiously, there is no evidence of any place of worship within the castle in preceding centuries. The first interior pictorial decoration dates back to the sixteenth century, completely renovated in the seventeenth century, probably at the behest of Giovanni Arbogasto Thun, who, together with his wife Maddalena Margherita Thun, had made the castle their residence.

FRESCOES

The pictorial decoration of the chapel is dedicated to the figure of Mary. Scenes from her life – the Nativity, the Presentation at the Temple, the Marriage, and the Assumption – are depicted on the walls with a vividness and freshness of composition and colour attributable to the style of Elia Naurizio, a painter very active in the Trentino area during the early decades of the seventeenth century. Angels holding Marian symbols were added on the vault, likely by another artist at a later date.
