Castel Stenico

Perched on the hill overlooking the town of Stenico, the castle still retains its imposing and massive appearance as a fortified building.

Inside, the elegance of the spaces and the refinement of frescoes and sculptures reveal its purpose as the summer residence of the Prince-Bishop of Trento.

An exhibition path dedicated to the applied arts unfolds in the rooms.

EXPLORE THE CASTLE

OLD PALACE AND NEW PALACE

In continuity with Casa Murata, at the beginning of the 13th century, the New Palace was built, characterized by elegant mullioned windows and pointed arch triple windows. Opposite it is the Old Palace, also of medieval origin.

OLD HOUSE AND HINDERBACH PALACE

The castle of Stenico consists of buildings constructed in different eras, expanded and renovated over time.

BOZONE TOWER

In the Tower, also known as the ‘Tower of Hunger,’ a prison is located—dark and without openings—accessed through a trapdoor in the ceiling. Another prison is situated nearby, as well as a cistern for collecting rainwater.

CHAPEL OF SAINT MARTIN

In the medieval Palazzo di Niccolò, on the ground floor, is the castle chapel dedicated to Saint Martin. The space, a single nave, intimate and sober, is an enlargement of an original place of worship dating back to the early Middle Ages.

COLLECTIONS

The nature of the collections exhibited at Castel Stenico primarily concerns objects related to applied art.
The manor houses paintings and objects of applied arts from provincial collections: a significant testimony to the creativity and
skill of the artists and artisans who worked in the Trentino region over the centuries.
