Located at the connection between the Old Palace and the New Palace, replacing a patrol walkway and a turret, the elegant and airy Renaissance loggia contributes to infusing the castle with the appearance of an elegant residence; the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Bernardo Cles, bearing the date 1538, is carved on the vault.

On the second floor of the Old Palace – the building erected in the second half of the twelfth century by Bozone of Stenico, lord of the castle and vassal of the Prince-Bishop of Trento – the ‘Hall of Flowers’ is characterised by a delicate pictorial frieze with different floral varieties, among which Clesian insignia and symbols stand out.

Vast and severe, lit only through a series of slits, the hall on the ground floor of the New Palace was perhaps intended for the administration of local justice, entrusted to the Captain of the Giudicarie, the bishop’s official who was also responsible for military control and economic administration of the Giudicarie area. At the back of the room, a raised step resting directly on the rock, according to tradition, housed the judges.

A large hall, lit by a succession of arched mullioned windows and a triple lancet window, occupies the entire second floor of the thirteenth-century New Palace. Traditionally referred to as the ‘Council Room’, it is a representative environment: a large fresco, painted in 1473 by Jacob Staudenfuchs by order of the Prince-Bishop Johannes Hinderbach, symbolically presents three emblematic figures of power of this territory: Charlemagne, symbol of imperial authority, Saint Vigilio, patron saint of Trento and personification of princely-episcopal power, and Bishop Adelpreto, to whom the construction of the first nucleus of the Stenico Castle is attributed.
