VISIT TORRE AQUILA
THE CYCLE OF THE MONTHS
| An exemplary expression of International Gothic, the Cycle of the Months was painted by an artist of Bohemian origin who was commissioned by the Prince-Bishop Georg von Liechtenstein around the year 1400. The frescoes document with extraordinary faithfulness and great poetic force the feudal world at the decline of the Middle Ages. In eleven frames, the month of March is lost, the duties of the peasants and the pastimes of the nobility are described in detail amidst a landscape that continually changes with the seasons. | ![]() |
THE FALCON'S TOWER
|
This area, once the wall-walk that led to the Torre Aquila, is decorated with frescoes painted in the 16th century by a painter of Nordic training who was commissioned by the Prince-Bishop Bernardo Cles. They depict scenes of hunting and pastimes of the nobility in the outdoors, in pleasant landscapes, in one of which a view of Salzburg with its famous fortress can be recognised.. |
