Library

This specialised library is intended as for study and retraining activities and for cultural protection and promotion. Founded in 1920, it boasts a collection of over 25,000 volumes and 350 Italian and foreign periodicals, with a particular focus on medieval and modern art and the history of the region.

It is connected to the Bibliographic Catalog of Trentino (CBT). It also preserves the collection of antique books, including works of exceptional relevance such as the Codex purpureus, volumes from the ancient episcopal library, the famous ‘Feininger’ Music Fund, and six of the seven ‘Trent Codices.’

It is open to the public for consultation every weekday
(Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM-12:15 PM and 1:45 PM-4:30 PM; Friday: 9:00 AM-12:30 PM).

Photo archive

The archive contains photographic resources of historical and artistic interest, mainly related to the museum’s buildings and collections, including negatives (on glass plates and film), black and white prints, colour slides and digital files. The archive can be consulted by appointment for study purposes, exhibitions or educational activities, as well as for publishing and commercial initiatives.

The photographs cannot be loaned; however, a copy is allowed upon submission of a specific request to be sent via email to archivio.fotografico@castellodelbuonconsiglio.tn.it or by mail to the following address:

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

The services offer a huge range of resources, educational and other public initiatives and activities, according to the different museum audiences (adults, families, schools, disabled people, etc.), to promote informed and active museum attendance and awareness of the protection of cultural heritage.

CAFETERIA

Overlooking the gardens by Castelvecchio, this is the ideal place for an enjoyable break and light lunch, with a careful selection of tasty choices. Open during the museum opening hours, with no entry fee. The café is wheelchair accessible.

FAMILY AREA

This calm and family-friendly space overlooks a sheltered inner courtyard, with toilets close by. Perfect for taking a short break, entertaining children with games and books or breastfeeding.

BUONCONSIGLIO WORKSHOP & BOOKSHOP

The bookshop is the final stage of your visit. Housed in an evocative setting with frescoes by Girolamo Romanino, it offers a wide selection of publications, including guides to the castle and city, history and art history books, exhibition catalogues and a range of souvenirs and other objects exclusively created for the museum. Open during the museum opening hours, with no entry fee.

TOILET FACILITIES

The toilets are fully accessible to wheelchair users. There is a separate toilet for infants, equipped with changing facilities.

WARDROBE

Two rooms at the entrance to the Sala del Buonconsiglio are equipped with lockers to store bags, backpacks and pushchairs while visiting the museum. We recommend storage of heavy and bulky luggage given the length of itinerary.

BIKE PARKING

A bike rack has been provided in the Cortile delle Beccarie, near the toilets, for parking bikes. This is a safe but not guarded area and bikes may be parked at owners risk.
